Autodesk ReCap RCP & RCS Export
Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks attach point clouds as ReCap RCP or RCS files. Turn on ReCap generation when you process a point cloud upload, and SkyGIS Pro builds an RCP project with its RCS scan data alongside the browser version of the survey. One upload gives you a link for the client and a package for their design team.
- Input
- LAS, LAZ, E57 or ASCII
- Output
- ZIP with RCP and Support folder
- Generated
- During point cloud processing
What's in the ReCap download
The package arrives as one ZIP file from the processing job.
- Source
- LAS, LAZ, E57 or ASCII point clouds uploaded for point cloud processing.
- Option
- ReCap generation, switched on before the processing job starts.
- Contents
- An RCP project file and a Support folder holding the RCS scan data.
- Handling
- The RCP points to the files in the Support folder. Move, copy and send them together, in the same structure.
Typical job
One scan, two recipients
A survey team scans an office building ahead of a refurbishment. The client's project manager wants to look around the building and check a few dimensions. The architect models in Revit and wants the point cloud as ReCap files.
The surveyor uploads the E57 with ReCap generation turned on. When processing finishes, the project manager gets a share link that opens in a browser, and the architect gets the ZIP with the RCP and its Support folder.
- Upload
- E57 from a terrestrial scanner
- Project manager
- Browser share link
- Architect
- RCP and Support folder
Generating ReCap files from LAS or E57
Upload the scan
Add LAS, LAZ, E57 or ASCII files and choose the point cloud processing type.
Turn on ReCap generation
Set it before the job starts. The browser layer and the ReCap package then come from the same processing run.
Download and unzip
Extract the ZIP and keep the RCP next to its Support folder when you hand it over.
Uploading ReCap files to SkyGIS
It works in the other direction too. Pro accepts standalone RCS scan files as an upload format and converts them for viewing in the browser, alongside the rest of the project.
An RCP project can't be uploaded directly. Upload the individual RCS scan files instead.
Questions
Can one upload serve both the client and their design team?
Yes. With ReCap generation on, SkyGIS Pro gives you a browser link for the client and a ReCap package for the architect or engineer working in Revit, AutoCAD or Navisworks.
Do I need Autodesk ReCap to create the files?
No. SkyGIS builds the RCP and RCS files during its own processing. The recipient opens them in ReCap or another Autodesk product that reads them.
What should I tell the recipient about the package?
Keep the RCP file and its Support folder together. The RCP points to the scan data in that folder, so one without the other leaves ReCap with nothing to load.
Can I upload an RCP file to SkyGIS?
No. Direct RCP upload isn't supported. Pro accepts standalone RCS scan files, which it converts for viewing.
