    Gaussian Splat Viewer

A Gaussian splat captures a place as a photorealistic 3D scene. The format is increasingly used for virtual tours, film production and recording historic buildings and objects. SkyGIS opens splats in a dedicated browser viewer, so your audience can move through a scene without installing specialist software.

A captured scene people can explore

    • Virtual tours

Show interiors, courtyards and public spaces as scenes people can move through and see from any angle.

    • Film and creative production

Use captured locations and objects as a visual reference when you plan a production or present a scene.

    • Heritage and digital preservation

Keep a visual record of historic buildings, rooms and objects that people can explore.

Built for the look of a place

A Gaussian splat builds a scene from many overlapping, coloured elements, so surfaces, light and detail still look photographic as you move around.

SkyGIS reads several splat formats, so you can export from your capture or training software and open the scene in the splat viewer.

    From capture to visual review

    1. Export the scene

Export a supported splat file from your capture or training software.

    2. Upload and open

Upload the dataset to SkyGIS, process it and open the dedicated splat viewer.

    3. Explore

Move through the scene and check it on the devices your audience will use. Scene size and the device's graphics both affect how smoothly it runs.

    Questions

What are Gaussian splats useful for?

Virtual tours, location reviews for film and creative work, and visual records of buildings and objects. They let people see what a place looks like and move around in it.

Can I overlay a splat with a point cloud or IFC model?

No. Splats open in a separate viewer, with no coordinate system and no overlays from other datasets.

Can I use a splat for survey measurements?

Use a survey point cloud in the standard viewer for measurements. The splat viewer is for visual work, and looking photorealistic doesn't make a splat positionally accurate.

Which Gaussian splat formats does SkyGIS open?

Xgrids LCC, PLY, SPZ, SOG, SPLAT and KSPLAT.
