    Data Format Reference

Comprehensive guide to all file formats supported by SkyGIS, organized by data type and plan tier.

    Point Cloud Formats

    E57 (All plans)

The ASTM E57 format is an open, vendor-neutral standard for storing 3D point cloud data. SkyGIS supports E57 files with intensity, color (RGB), and classification attributes.

    • Maximum file size: unlimited (streamed progressively)
    • Supported attributes: XYZ, intensity, RGB, classification
    • Multi-scan E57 files are supported — each scan appears as a separate layer

    LAS / LAZ (All plans)

ASPRS LAS is the industry standard for LiDAR data. SkyGIS supports LAS 1.0–1.4 and compressed LAZ files. Point record formats 0–10 are fully supported.

TXT / CSV / XYZ (All plans)

Plain text point clouds with configurable column mapping. Specify delimiter, coordinate columns, and optional attribute columns during upload.

    RCS (Enterprise)

Autodesk ReCap scan format. Enterprise plan enables direct upload and streaming of RCS files without conversion.

    Vector Formats

    DXF (All plans)

AutoCAD Drawing Exchange Format. SkyGIS renders 2D and 3D entities including lines, polylines, arcs, circles, and text. Layer structure is preserved.

    DWG (Core+)

Native AutoCAD format with full entity support. Xrefs are resolved if included in the upload.

    SHP (All plans)

ESRI Shapefile format. Upload the complete set (.shp, .shx, .dbf, and optionally .prj). Attribute data is accessible in the attribute table view.

    DGN, IFC, LandXML, CityGML (Enterprise)

Enterprise plan unlocks support for Bentley DGN, Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) for BIM, LandXML for civil engineering, and CityGML for 3D city models.

    Raster Formats

Upload your own raster imagery (Core plan and above) in the following formats:

    • GeoTIFF — Georeferenced raster imagery with embedded coordinate information
    • JPEG / PNG — Standard image formats (requires manual georeferencing)
    • ECW — Enhanced Compressed Wavelet for large aerial imagery
WMS Support (Plus+): Connect to external Web Map Services to overlay additional map layers without downloading data.

    Coordinate Systems

SkyGIS supports all EPSG-registered coordinate reference systems. During upload, the CRS is auto-detected from file metadata when available. You can manually override the CRS if needed.

    • WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) — Global geographic coordinates
    • UTM zones — Projected coordinates for regional accuracy
    • National grid systems — Country-specific projections
    • Local / engineering coordinates — Custom coordinate systems
